THE OPPORTUNITY
The Program Intern will support Crossroads International’s efforts to engage Canadians in advancing women’s rights and gender equality in Sub-Saharan Africa. This position will support our Program Impact Team – specifically the Manager of the Impact Team, the Programme Officer for Gender Equality, Empowerment of Women and Girls and the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning Officer. The intern will work on the development of asynchronous online training modules on i. Gender Equality and Monitoring and Evaluation in development programming, ii. Environment and climate change in development programming and iii. Create a compilation of best practices on environment and climate adaptation. All training modules including the best practices will be created in an online learning platform and will be for Crossroads International, volunteers, Programme Support Advisors and staff. This position requires an enthusiastic, dedicated and detail-oriented individual who can manage multiple tasks with ease, and collect and analyze data. This person is a team player, willing to learn and able to adapt to changing priorities.
Depending on skills, this person will participate in program-related tasks, including research and review of sources, consultations and collaboration with other teams and volunteers, analysis of information, development of the training modules and best practices, as well as other program-related tasks and administrative support as relevant.
The Program Intern position is full-time and requires a minimum of 35 hours per week for 8 weeks from May to August 2026, with the possibility of continued employment based on organizational needs.
The role is primarily remote, with the possibility of working in person at the Montreal/Toronto office when possible.
Main Responsibilities

- Review internal documents to gain a thorough understanding of Crossroads’ mission, values, context, program approaches and policies
- Plan, schedule and lead collaborations with teams in Canada and regional offices in Africa
- Review and analyze collected information for usefulness and relevance
- Other tasks and special projects as required
Qualifications
- Enrolled in a university program or equivalent in a related field (business, sociology, gender studies, environment, human rights, international relations, etc.).
- Interest in international development and issues related to gender equality and women’s empowerment and environment and climate adaptation.
- Excellent English or French language skills required, bilingualism is a strong asset
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications (i.e. SharePoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently
- Organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent research, writing and organizational skills
- Ability to work with different stakeholders, including at a distance
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- High level of autonomy and initiative
- Ability to work remotely for most of the week in a fast-paced environment, with the possibility of coming into the office if desired.
