Crossroads International’s Approach to Usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Recruitment
Our Values and Intent
Crossroads is committed to the fundamentals and values of access and equity. Crossroads continuously works to promote an equitable culture of inclusivity and transparency.
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee at Crossroads involves staff from various teams and regions within the organization, and committee members hold fresh perspectives essential for fostering meaningful dialogue and driving impactful change.
We at Crossroads recognize that Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools can prove be useful in some parts of the application process. However, it is essential that our assessments reflect the candidate’s own skills, judgement, and communication.
This page outlines our expectations around the usage of AI throughout the recruitment process to ensure fairness and authenticity for all applicants.
Acceptable Use of AI
We understand that candidates may use AI tools to assist with:
-
Drafting and/or refining materials such as resumes and cover letters;
-
Organizing or editing information such as grammar and structure for clarity;
AI use is acceptable if:
-
The content submitted is truthful and accurately represents the candidate’s own experiences and qualifications;
-
The tool is utilized as a support, not a substitute for the candidate’s own work;
We at Crossroads want to prioritize protecting the integrity of the recruit process, but also do not want to penalize the curiosity and fluency of candidates with technology.
AI Use During Interviews
AI must not be used during any stage of the interview process, including:
-
Pre-screening videos;
-
Pre-screening interviews;
-
Panel interviews;
This restriction applies to but is not limited to:
-
AI-generated or AI-enhanced responses;
-
Real-time language translation, interpretation, or enhancement tools;
-
Prompts, scripts, or automated communication aids;
We ask that candidates engage authentically so our panels are able to understand their genuine communication styles, problem-solving approaches, and interpersonal skills.
AI Use in Written Tests
All written tests and/or assignments are designed to evaluate candidates’ real-time knowledge, judgement, and ability to apply skills without external assistance.
In being so, AI must not be used for any written test or assignment.
Crossroads will:
-
Review submissions for signs of AI-generated content;
-
Evaluate each submission equitably and consistently;
If AI use is identified:
-
It may impact future eligibility for Crossroads positions;
-
It may lead to disciplinary action if you are the successful candidate;
Our goal at Crossroads is to protect the integrity of the hiring process, not discourage learning or curiosity about the ever growing world of technology.
Our Commitment
Crossroads is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and respectful culture for all. We do not tolerate discrimination, sexual harassment, exploitation or abuse of any form. We acknowledge that these behaviours are often rooted in the abuse of power, which is contrary to Crossroads’ vision of ONE WORLD where equality prevails.
Crossroads is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. By setting these expectations toward the ever growing state of AI usage in our world, we ensure that every candidate has an equal opportunity to demonstrate their authentic capabilities.
