Position - Communication and Marketing Advisor – Africa Community Technical Services (ACTS)

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct brand audit and update brand guidelines.
  • Co-develop unified messaging for all platforms.
  • Revamp website layout and social media strategy.
  • Establish a monthly, quarterly or annual newsletter template.
  • Conduct workshops on digital storytelling, photography, and writing.
  • Co-develop content templates and toolkits.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate University Degree  in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or related field and or ,
  • Master’s Degree in Communications, Strategic Marketing, or Non-Profit Communication.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of professional experience in marketing, PR, or nonprofit communications.
  • Experience developing communication strategies and social media campaigns.
  • Proven success in capacity building and content development for NGOs.
  • Strong portfolio in storytelling, photography, or videography is a plus.
  • Excellent written and visual communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and training abilities.
  • Proficiency in tools like Canva, Adobe Suite, Mailchimp, WordPress, or similar.

Project description and context: 

Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas. 

The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence. 

Description of the partner

Africa Community Technical Services (ACTS) Uganda is a nonprofit organization that implements life-saving WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programs to improve health outcomes and resilience in underserved communities. Despite its impact, ACTS struggles with limited visibility, inconsistent messaging, and an underdeveloped digital presence. This restricts donor engagement, community outreach, and advocacy influence.

Challenges & Needs

  • Inconsistent brand and messaging across platforms
  • Limited internal capacity for digital marketing and storytelling
  • Ineffective use of tools like websites, newsletters, and social media
  • Low visibility among potential donors and partners

Mandate Objective

To enhance ACTS Uganda’s communication systems and organizational visibility by developing a robust communications strategy, improving branding, strengthening digital channels, and training internal staff

Eligibility criteria 

    •  Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada. 
    • Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement 
    • Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct 
    • In good physical and mental health (medical examination required) 
    • The volunteer needs to bring their own computer. 
    • The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training.

Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following: 

  • Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)  
  • Plane ticket and local transport 
  • Pre-assignment online training.
