Position - Knowledge Management Advisor – The Uganda Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Uganda)

Main Responsibilities

  •  Assess current knowledge management tools and systems to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Co-develop and implement a user-friendly digital knowledge sharing platform (e.g., a centralized database or document repository).
  • Conduct training sessions for staff on how to use new platforms effectively and ensure consistent data entry and sharing practices
  • Create templates and guidelines for the documentation of case studies, legal strategies, and advocacy initiatives.
  •  Develop a repository to store and manage advocacy resources, ensuring they are easily accessible by staff and external stakeholders.
  • Organize and lead workshops to create and share knowledge products that support program outcomes.
  • Organize regular knowledge-sharing sessions where staff can present key learnings and discuss best practices.
  • Provide training on knowledge management processes, encouraging staff to document and share valuable insights from their work.
  •  Implement a mentorship program to ensure ongoing knowledge transfer, especially for new or less experienced staff members.

Qualifications

  •  A minimum of two years of previous experience in Knowledge Management work, preferably in the non- profit sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Knowledge Management, Information Management, Library Sciences, Social Sciences, or related disciplines).
  • Strong proficiency in knowledge management systems, digital platforms, and information sharing tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms to diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams, departments, and with external stakeholders to support the organization’s knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Familiarity with knowledge management tools, databases, document management systems, and collaborative platforms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently to solve complex knowledge management challenges.

Project description and context: 

Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas. 

The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence. 

Description of the partner

The Uganda Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Uganda) is a leading women’s rights organization, founded in 1974, and has since pioneered legal aid and public legal education in sub-Saharan Africa. FIDA-Uganda’s mission is to empower women and children by advancing and defending their human rights, focusing on providing legal aid and public education, particularly through a feminist and rights-based approach. Our work addresses issues such as patriarchy, exclusion, and injustice, with a particular focus on improving access to justice for marginalized women and children in Uganda.

Description the volunteer mandate

FIDA-Uganda is seeking a passionate  Knowledge Manager to play a key role in strengthening its knowledge management systems. The successful candidate will help to co-develop, co-organize, and optimize FIDA-Uganda’s internal knowledge sharing systems, ensuring that all relevant legal, programmatic, and advocacy information is easily accessible to staff, partners, and other stakeholders. The Knowledge Manager will work to enhance the capacity of the organization in sharing critical information that drives legal and advocacy initiatives, ensuring the best possible outcomes for marginalized women and children.

Eligibility criteria 

 Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada. 

Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following: 

Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)  

Plane ticket and local transport 

Pre-assignment online training.
