OVERVIEW
The DAMCAM (My Voice, My Health) project, launched in 2019, is an ambitious initiative aimed at improving the health and sexual and reproductive rights of adolescents in the Kedougou region of Senegal. Given the region’s significant poverty, many young people lack access to healthcare and health education. With a duration of five years, the project is funded by Global Affairs Canada and is implemented on the ground by Crossroads International in collaboration with its three local partners: ActionAid, APROFES, and CONAFE.
DAMCAM’s objectives include strengthening sexual and reproductive health services, reducing stigma associated with the use of these services, enhancing the capacity of key healthcare system stakeholders, increasing the quality and availability of services, and involving local elected officials in awareness campaigns. To achieve these objectives, the project has implemented various activities, including mobile learning labs, information sessions, and free consultation days at healthcare facilities.
The DAMCAM project has achieved great success beyond local boundaries, reaching over 34,500 users through social networks. Project accomplishments include the distribution of educational booklets, the provision of equipment for 15 mobile learning lab sites, the supply of sexual and reproductive health kits to 36 healthcare facilities, and the equipping of the region’s three districts with biomedical waste management equipment. Crossroads International is proud of the project’s success and plans to continue its efforts to improve the health and well-being of adolescents in the Kedougou region.
