Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas.

Description of the partner
Fair and Square works with MSMEs in the handmade, food, and cosmetics sectors that require capacity building in brand management, particularly in content creation, marketing, and storytelling. Strengthening these skills would enable MSMEs to elevate their businesses and expand their reach, as consumers increasingly value understanding the story behind a brand. This can be achieved through effective content creation, marketing, and storytelling.
Fair and Square currently provides MSMEs with basic training and mentorship in marketing and storytelling. However, the organization does not currently have the specialized expertise required to provide in-depth capacity building in brand management, strategic marketing, and storytelling. There is therefore a need to strengthen Fair and Square’s own capacity in these areas so that it can, in turn, provide more comprehensive support to the MSMEs it works with in the future.
The MSMEs require practical guidance on how to effectively market their brands using both established and innovative marketing approaches. They also need support in communicating and presenting their brand stories effectively, including during physical and virtual conversations, meetings, and engagements with potential customers and clients. They would benefit from practical strategies and methods for developing compelling brand narratives and using them effectively to attract and engage their target audiences.
As part of this work, Fair and Square is also looking to launch a TikTok channel focused on MSME development, women’s empowerment, and Fair Trade advocacy. Building expertise in digital content creation, storytelling, and innovative marketing will be essential to developing and managing this platform effectively while amplifying the voices, products, and stories of the MSMEs it supports.
