Main responsibilities 

The Information Personnel Support Volunteer will assist YWCA in all capacity building  activities on information technology. YWCA has gaps in the IT sector due to funding constraints that have hindered the organization from employing a full time staff in the position. The organization is running a number of projects that require the use of ICT to make it visible and more attractive to the outside world. Therefore the services of the Information Personnel Support Volunteer will help to close this gap. Furthermore, the organization capacities in running ICT activities will be enhanced.

  • Ensure security of data, network access and backup systems
  • Maintains assets by implementing data recovery and back-up procedures, information security and control structures.
  • Knowledge sharing and capacity building on common technical problem areas , implement strategic solutions in time by managing information technology and computer systems.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain all network and computer related issues (hardware and software) for easy strategic information sharing, networking meetings and trainings (virtual meetings and conferencing).
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of strategic  information technology , policies and procedures for efficiency.
  • Build capacities in delegated staff to implement more lucid and innovative initiatives on design and management of the organizations website and social media accounts .
  • Contribute to the documentation and diffusion of learning and innovations about information technology.
  • Suggest better ICT options for the organization.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate university degree (or equivalent) in Computer science, Management of Information Systems or similar field
  • 2 years in IT work experience.
  • Training experience
  • Demonstrate ability to be proactive, flexible and take initiative
  • Demonstrate ability to interact with individuals of different cultures.
  • Professional level English skills (written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated interest in the fields of social impact making and gender equality
  • Proficiency in standard software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

YWCA is a Christian, membership, non -partisan, non-governmental organization, dedicated to the empowerment of the community (especially women, youth and children) to contribute to the attainment of a just society through  rights -based approaches and sustainable interventions.

The activities are aligned according to the following  five thematic programmes of the organization;

  1. Women, Youth and Children’s human rights programme;
  2. Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights and HIV and AIDS Programme;
  3. Social and economic empowerment programme;
  4. Management and organizational Capacity Development programme; and
  5. Membership and governance programme.

Eligibility criteria  

  •  Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada. 
    • Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement 
    • Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct 
    • In good physical and mental health (medical examination required) 
    • The volunteer needs to bring their own computer. 
    • The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training from 6 – 13 December 2023 for January 2024 departure dates

Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following:

  • Medical insurance and vaccinations 
  • Pre-assignment online training.
