Position - Gender Equality and Communications Advisor

Main Responsibilities

  • Monitor statistics on gender equality both in terms of program outcomes and in terms of beneficiaries of interventions and program delivery in compliance with the NETRIGHT’s Gender Equality policy 
  • Conduct training for communities at a local level in a bid to  ensure inclusivity of women in decision-making process and governance 
  • Develop a comprehensive planning framework and strategy roadmap to establish strategic direction.
  •  Continuously implement, and oversee a range of operational support programs, as applicable to the overall objectives of the NETRIGHT 
  • Support communications related to SGBV prevention, gender equality and women’s empowerment, and other gender equality and visibility needs. 


  • Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in Communications, Developmental Studies, Public Relations, Journalism or related field. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in combination with requisite qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the master’s degree. 
  • Demonstrable experience working with multi-stakeholders, including governments, donors’ partners and civil society organizations 
  • Experience in designing gender equality materials for a range of audiences 
  • Previous experience in leading policy advocacy  
  • Demonstrate ability to interact with individuals of different cultures.    
  • Demonstrated interest in the fields of social impact making and gender equality  
  • Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health rights within a gender equality framework, an asset   
  • Ability and willingness to work in rural areas during field visits and willingness to work in a non-Canadian socio-cultural and professional settings 
  • Proficiency in standard software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) 
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal) is required, and an additional language spoken within the region would be advantageous but not necessary 

Project description and context: 

Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas. 

The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence. 

Description of the partner

NETRIGHT is looking for a volunteer to contribute to the overall outcome of ‘Implementation of Gender Equality actions in Ghana that address key drivers of gender-based vulnerabilities and enhance human rights. NETRIGHT does not have the capacity to effectively carry out community interventions related to gender equality and human rights. An expert volunteer with experience in Gender Equality and Human Rights can aid in enhancing the organizations capacity and expand its current scope of work

Eligibility criteria 

    •  Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada. 
    • Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement 
    • Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct 
    • In good physical and mental health (medical examination required) 
    • The volunteer needs to bring their own computer. 
    • The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training from 14 – 20 February 2024

Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following: 

  • Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)  
  • Plane ticket and local transport 
  • Pre-assignment online training.
