Legacy Giving Day is commemorated every year on September 13th. It is a day where organizations around the world highlight the importance of donors like you who made a decision to leave a gift in their Will to their favourite charity. Today is also a day where we celebrate the immense impact that your legacy gift can have.
There is so much to worry about in our world today, from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic to war in Ukraine and the climate change crisis and increase in poverty.
At Crossroads, supporters like you help us achieve so much, every day, to make a brighter future for the women and girls we serve. Because of you, we have power to effect change.

Thank you for thinking of future generations and for making a pledge in your last Wills and testaments to make lasting impact for marginalized women, girls, and entire communities in sub-Saharan Africa.
Legacy gifts play a crucial role in supporting Crossroads, yet many people do not know about this option of giving or the tax benefits of these gifts. These gifts can be in the form of a cash gift, or a residual gift (percentage of your estate). The main difference between the two is that a cash gift will stay the same over time, while a residual gift can grow in value as the estate grows.
A big misconception about legacy giving is that it’s only for philanthropists and high net-worth individuals, which couldn’t be farther from the truth. Rather, a legacy gift is a powerful tool that everyday people can use to make a lasting difference for Crossroads in their own estates.
While another common misconception of legacy giving is that it will take away from a loved one’s inheritance, a legacy gift can actually offset some of the taxes on an estate to ensure that a greater portion of the estate is inherited by the family rather than the government.
This year, Crossroads partnered with Willfora to provide a free online service for writing or updating your Will whenever you want at no extra cost. And it takes only 20-minutes or less. To learn more about how to access this service, visit our legacy page here.
Please note that this offer by no means requires supporters to leave a charitable gift when creating or updating their Will through Willfora. However, we hope our supporters will see this as an opportunity to satisfy their estate planning objectives while considering charitable support for Crossroads.
