Project description and context:
Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas.
The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence.
Description of the partner
Established in 2012, Kwakha Indvodza (meaning ‘Building a Man’ in siSwati) is a Swazi nonprofit organization which specializes in community-led health and behaviour change interventions with men and boys. Founded in response to fundamental gaps in HIV and violence prevention programming in Eswatini, KI provides unique interactive spaces to nurture healthy, resilient, gender-equal males. With a large team of skilled and motivated staff and volunteers, KI has established itself as a reliable, ambitious national civil society organization, implementing a wide range of health, social and gender justice programmes for men and boys.
Description the volunteer mandate
Although Kwakha Indvodza is a well-established organization, with the support of the community it needs more technical capacity to be able to raise funds to scale up its programs. The organization is unable to access large donor funds not only because of the limited donor opportunities but also due to the organization not have the capacity to successfully mobilize resources, mobilize donors, develop proposals and manage partnerships to the level required by funders.
Mandate to build the institutional capacity of the organization by diversifying funding sources and guaranteeing its long-term sustainability. The volunteer will support the development of an overall resource mobilization strategy, assist in strengthening the fundraising system and enhancing staff capacity in proposal development, donor communication and relations.
Eswatini continues to encounter serious socio-economic issues such as high youth unemployment, persistent poverty, gender inequality and marginalized communities have restricted access to economic opportunities. Civil Society organizations have been instrumental responding to these issues; however, the local CSOs and NGO face financial constraints due to heavy competition for funds and their weak institutional capacity.
The volunteer will work in partnership with the following key areas of organization to achieve these goals: Executive Director and Programs Manager-program management and reporting; Finance and Administration Officer-funding management and oversight; Monitoring and Evaluation Officer-program monitoring and evaluation, accountability to stakeholders, and organizational sustainability. They will be working together to determine the most effective way to mobilize resources.
