Introduction

Crossroads International is a leader in international cooperation and has been fighting inequality for over 65 years. Crossroads works with local partner organizations in sub-Saharan Africa to strengthen women’s economic power; empower them to become leaders and live free from violence.

The Scholars for Social Change (SSC) Project is a three-year project implemented by Crossroads International (Crossroads) in partnership with Mastercard Foundation (the Foundation). The ultimate outcome of this project is fully aligned with the Mastercard Foundation’s mission to increase access to education to improve employment and its objective of building a network of transformative leaders to equip them with skills and tools necessary to succeed in their chosen career path.

The Consultancy

Crossroads International plans to conduct a Gender Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) for the Scholars for Social Change project in Uganda. The consultant will look at the socio-economic, environmental and gender issues affecting young peoples’ access to meaningful and dignified work with a bias on women and girls. Understanding the gender dynamics at the national and regional level is critical as they may influence the direct and indirect beneficiaries of the project in the long run depending on cultural, economic, environmental changes and other factors.

The findings from the GBA+ will inform what capacity building areas the Scholars and partners need and guide the development of training tools/modules to enhance the Scholars’ and the partners capacity in understanding gender transformative programming and breaking gender stereotypes in their community with links across environmental, social, health and economic impacts to illustrate intersectional and diverse effects to gender equality. The consultant will also make recommendations for mainstreaming gender into the next phases of the SSC Project.
